Georg Breuer, Pfaffenwies Lorch 2020

Flag of Germany

Georg Breuer was founded by its namesake in 1880 in the region of Rheingau, Germany, and boasts some the best Grand Cru vineyards going. Today, Georg's great-great-granddaughter, Theresa Breuer heads up the winery and has worked tirelessly to uphold her family's ideals. She decided to farm the family vineyards organically, and keeps yields carefully restricted to ensure grapes with plenty of concentration and wines full of flavour. Pfaffenwies Lorch 2020 is made from 100% Riesling. The south-east facing sites on steep slate slopes attract the afternoon sun which gives the fruit heaps of intensity, flavour and ripeness into the grapes. The fruit was hand-harvested and spent 8 months in large oak foudre prior to release. This Grand Cru is has notes of almond, chamomile, nectarine and green apple on the nose. Yellow fruity and slightly floral on the palate. Concentrated with beautifully integrated acidity. Despite its lightness, it has a great tension, with a gentle pithiness and a long finish.
